You know, somehow, during all those years of the Bush presidency, through all the foibles and goofs and live bloopers, it was nice to see that he never lost his cool. Still, lots of people poked fun at him. This guy calls him an "idoit" - yes, you read that right:
Bush always held his composure, and never let it get to him. Just watch the cocky look in his eye at the end of the video: You can almost hear him thinking, "Nyah nyah, you missed me!"
Obama, though, strikes me as something more severe than a country bumpkin. He was presented to the world through the slick party machine as a smooth talker, a profound thinker, a savant. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
...you'll be delighted to hear that my wife has given birth to our fifth* child.
(Perhaps my title isn't fair; I know that many of my readers are separated from us by distance and non-Facebookiness.)
Our son - yes, our SON, if you can believe it - took his first breath at 8:25 AM on Feb 27. He was 9 lb 9 oz, and 22 inches long. His name is Benedict Robert Joachim Kautz. Mom and baby are home and all is well, aside from a cold bug circling through our home.

The girls are enthralled and want to keep poking him.
Call me Doogie.
I got that nickname from making journal entries on my computer back in college... kinda like what I'm doing now.
I'm a former Free Methodist and current (and permanent) Roman Catholic. I'm also a politically aware Canadian who votes Conservative. Rabid Sens fan. I am magnetically drawn to true, sharp wit, and thus appreciate Chesterton, Lewis, Churchill, Python... all the clever Brits. Got a beautiful wife, cute kids, interesting new job, filthy minivan, big mortgage, etc.
Why on earth would a Bible-school educated evangelical Protestant with a touch of the charismatic movement ever become Catholic?!? Isn't that going backwards?
This is a question many of my friends and family could not understand. Ultimately, the answer was one of authority: who has it? As a Protestant, my answer was always "The Bible."
But I never stopped to ask myself if the Bible itself claims that it has final authority in all spiritual and moral matters of any importance.
It does not.
There are countless references in Scripture to there being sources of the Truth other than what is Written. I explained my reasoning (albeit sloppily) based on passages from my old NIV Bible way back in 1998, and later posted it to my blog. For a better explanation, check this out.
I was actually very surprised to discover this truth, and once I did the only logical place to turn was to the only place which claims to retain the oral teachings of the faith of old.
Since I "crossed the Tiber" I've had no regrets, despite the lost friendships and tense moments with my family. It's all worth it. See Matthew 13:44.
