Meanwhile, While the Ottawa Senators Are Golfing...

Remember this post from a few months back? The Sens' wives & girlfriends had elected to donate part of their Christmas fundraiser to First Place Pregnancy Centre, and the CBC erupted in rage and threw up a big fuss. Because the FPPC doesn't refer to abortuaries.

There's a bit more to the story, apparently.

It seems that the arch-nemesis of all things pro-life, Planned Parenthood, had been doing some string pulling behind the curtains. In a press release today, FPPC alleges that Planned Parenthood "interfered with critical funding and defamed their charity putting the charity and the women they serve at risk." So First Place is suing.

Read the press release. And do what you can to help them out; legal fees are nasty.

  1. I am so frustrated by this! As a former supporter of First place I am just furious that they are behaving this way.
    My contributions to First Place were intended to help people in trouble, not pay for a law suit.
    I would encourage everyone to think twice about their commitment to First Place.

  2. I empathize with your frustration, but we pro-lifers have got to start fighting back. For the sake of the unborn, we can't just sit back and let the pro-abortion crowd pummel us with their lies. If First Place was legitimately interfered with, the last thing they should do is just accept it.

    True, we have to assign primary importance to the real struggles facing women with an unplanned bun in the oven, but we cannot lose sight of the larger war we're fighting at the same time.

    By the way, the idea to donate to them was mine. In no way did they ask me to help fundraise. For all I know, they may be getting their legal assistance pro bono.

  3. Thanks Doogie;
    I have to admit I agree with all 4 points, but I still feel like I've been hit with a sledge hammer.

  4. Dear "Anonymous"

    The reason First Place is doing this is to be able to CONTINUE to serve "people in trouble."

    I appreciate your concern regarding the funding of this lawsuit. They have clearly indicated though that they have every intention of seeking funding OUTSIDE of regular donations. That's the type of organization this is; they are not going to foolishly jeopardize this much needed community service in helping people in a crisis pregnancy situation.

    Having this hit you like a sledgehammer is a pretty normal reaction. Boy, how dare a Christian organization stand up for itself in a court of law. We are so trained to turn the other cheek and to be kicked when we are down. Way to go First Place!

    Perhaps "Anonymous" you may have a change in heart and consider helping out First Place with a donation towards their continued service to folks in need. It would be much appreciated. Who knows, there may be a little baby out there who may some day be thankful for your help to First Place. :)

    Peace - Jo-Anne
